Museum of the Earth Celebrates its 15th Anniversary with a Party for the Community
(ITHACA, NY) To mark its 15th anniversary, the Museum of the Earth is hosting a celebration to mark fifteen years of providing Earth science education to our community and to honor its supporters and partners who have helped make this possible.
The Museum will host its Fabulous Fifteenth Birthday Party on Saturday, September 22, 2018, from 10 am-5 pm. Admission will be free all day.
The day will include activities for all ages. To celebrate fifteen years, there will be a guide to fifteen fun activities that visitors can do. Little ones can meet Cecil the dinosaur at 10:30 am and attend Storytime at 11 am. Themed scavenger hunts will challenge guests throughout the museum and in our current “Secrets of the Skull” special exhibit.
At 12 pm in the Museum’s classroom, Professor Matt Pritchard, of the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Cornell University, will discuss the new book by the late Professor Arthur Bloom entitled "Gorges History: Landscapes and Geology of the Finger Lakes Region." Dr. Bloom introduced generations of students and curious individuals of all ages to the story behind the region’s beautiful scenery. In the afternoon, at 2 pm, birthday cake will be served.
Since its opening in 2003, the Museum of the Earth has provided individuals, families, and school groups with a unique opportunity to explore our world through a mix of natural history displays, educational programs, and art exhibitions. For the past fifteen years, thousands of visitors a year from all over the world have come to discover the history of life on Earth from this Ithaca gem. The Museum is a member of the Discovery Trail and hosts hundreds of First grade students from area schools each year in the Kids Discover the Trail program.
About the Paleontological Research Institution
The Paleontological Research Institution (PRI) pursues and integrates education and research, and interprets the history and systems of the Earth and its life, to increase knowledge, educate society, and encourage wise stewardship of the Earth. PRI and its two public venues for education, the Museum of the Earth and the Cayuga Nature Center, are separate from, but formally affiliated with Cornell University, and interact closely with numerous University departments in research, teaching, and public outreach.
