Since 1993, PRI has presented several annual awards. These awards are designed to recognize and encourage excellence in paleontology, particularly systematic paleontology (the branch of the discipline concerned with the description and analysis of the diversity of ancient life), across a broad spectrum of practitioners.
These awards have served an important role for PRI: they expand awareness of the Institution in several of our core audiences; they further our educational mission by encouraging science; and they cultivate potential supporters.
Gilbert Harris Award
In recognition of excellence in contributions to systematic paleontology.
Katherine Palmer Award
For an individual who is not a professional paleontologist for the excellence of their contributions to the field.
J. Thomas Dutro Jr. Award
This award of $500 is available to a graduate student who is pursuing research in any area of systematic paleontology.
John W. Wells Grants-in-Aid of Research Program
Grants of up to $500 for undergraduate and graduate students and post-doctoral researchers to visit PRI’s research collections for any type of paleontological research.
